Introduction
GTA Online's economy has matured significantly by 2026. The biggest mistake new players make is buying the most expensive assets first, only to realize the payback period is brutal. This guide follows one core principle: save first, invest second, let assets make you money.
Starting from absolute zero (no shark cards, no rich friends), following this route you can earn your first $1,000,000 GTA in about 8–12 hours.
Every Thursday, GTA Online refreshes with double-money events. Always prioritize the weekly featured activities — they can double or triple your hourly earnings. Check the Weekly Update Calendar for the latest.
Step 1: Character Creation & First Steps
Your first time in GTA Online starts with the tutorial heist. After that, you're dropped into Los Santos with roughly $10,000 GTA in your pocket.
Recommended Starting Setup
- Character appearance — Don't overthink it. You can change everything later at a barber or clothing store.
- Starter apartment — Pick the cheapest option. You'll upgrade soon.
- First action — Open your phone (Up arrow) and deposit your cash at Maze Bank. Don't carry too much on you.
Step 2: First Cash — Jobs & Races
At the start you own nothing, so your best bet is Jobs. Press Esc → Online → Jobs → Play Job → Rockstar Created to quick-join.
Best Jobs for Beginners
- "Blow Up" series — Simple, soloable, ~$15,000 per run
- Deathmatches — If you have FPS fundamentals, use the AP Pistol to rack up kills quickly
- Races — Hotring, Stunt Races — high payouts once you learn the tracks
- Survivals — 10 waves of enemies, ~$30,000 on completion
Your target for this phase: $200,000 GTA. Don't spend it yet — we're saving for a game-changer.
Step 3: Buy the Armored Kuruma
Once you hit $200K, open your phone → Internet → Southern San Andreas Super Autos and search for the Armored Kuruma. It costs exactly $200,000.
The Armored Kuruma is the best value vehicle in the game: nearly full bulletproofing (NPCs can barely touch you), great speed, and excellent handling. With this car, you can face-tank most NPC enemies and dramatically reduce mission difficulty.
It's also the go-to vehicle for the Fleeca Bank Heist.
Step 4: CEO Office & Vehicle Warehouse
With the Kuruma in your garage, your earning power jumps. Now save up around $1M GTA for your first serious asset.
Asset Purchase Priority
| Priority | Asset | Price | Why |
|---|---|---|---|
| ① | CEO Office (cheapest option) | ~$1M | Unlocks VIP Work; excellent during double-money weeks |
| ② | Vehicle Warehouse | ~$1.5M | Top-range car exports net ~$80K each with short cooldown |
| ③ | Nightclub | ~$1.2M | Pure passive income — earn while you AFK |
| ④ | Kosatka Submarine | ~$2.2M | Unlocks Cayo Perico, the most profitable heist in the game |
The CEO Office + Vehicle Warehouse combo is the strongest mid-game setup. Source and sell top-range vehicles for ~$80K profit each. You can do 3–4 per hour with good efficiency.
Step 5: Cayo Perico Heist — The Game Changer
Once you own the Kosatka submarine, your income potential skyrockets.
Cayo Perico Quick-Start
-
Setup Phase (~1 hour)
Start from the Kosatka's heist planning room. Complete the 6 preps. Recommended approach: Drainage Tunnel entry, uniform disruption, cutting torch, fingerprint scanner.
-
The Island (hard part)
Enter through the drainage tunnel. Cut the grate, swim up, and make your way to the communications tower to disable the signal jammer. This is the trickiest part your first time.
-
Loot & Escape
The primary target is in El Rubio's basement vault. Grab cocaine or gold as secondary loot. Escape by swimming off the cliff.
-
Payout
Solo average: $1M–$1.5M. Duo: $1.8M–$2M. Total time per run: ~1.5 hours. Highest hourly rate in the game.
Solo runs have a 10-minute real-time cooldown. Duo+ runs have 48 minutes. To maximize efficiency: run solo and switch to other jobs between cooldowns.
Advanced Tips & Warnings
- Every Thursday — Check Rockstar's newswire for double-money events and prioritize those missions.
- Don't buy too many cars — Early money belongs in assets, not garages.
- Join a crew — Crew bonuses can add 20–40% to mission payouts.
- Job chaining — After finishing a job, press R1/RB to quick-start another. Don't drop back to free roam between missions.
- Prime Gaming — Link your Amazon Prime account for a free ~$100K GTA every month.
Follow this roadmap and within a week you'll own a Nightclub and Kosatka, firmly in Los Santos' middle class. From there, tackle the Doomsday Heist, Diamond Casino Heist, and other high-end content.
